Traineeship as a shipping clerk, worked for Socopao S.A., Abidjan, Ivory Coast and West African P and I Services Ltd, London, both in 1988, studied in Saarbrücken and Freiburg, first state examination in law in 1993, second state examination in law in 1996, lecturer at Bremen University of Applied Sciences, including in the International Shipping & Chartering and Nautical Studies programmes as well as in the English-language IMBA International Master of Business Administration programme and at the Constructor University Bremen in the International Logistics Management and Engineering bachelor's programme
